Below are some recommendations on where you could stay around Cape Town and for the wedding.
There are so many more options, depending on size of group/budget.
Please reach out to us of you have any questions.
Rieebek-Kasteel (Wedding Day)
There will be a shuttle service for people staying in Rieebek-Kasteel on the day of the wedding. A one hour drive from Cape Town, Rieebek-Kasteel is one of the oldest towns in South Africa, often referred to as a hidden gem.
We have linked some accommodation options below, there are many small hotels/Airbnbs. We are getting married in peak season in South Africa and it could fill up quick.
Villa for 6 people - Villa for 6 people (2) - Royal Guesthouse - Koko Huis (hotel) - Cottage (2ppl) - Cottage (2ppl)
Cape Town
There are a number of areas within Cape Town that would make for a great central location to stay, depending on whether you would like ocean views, wine bars or to step out of your hotel onto the waterfront.
Each of the areas listed below would suit either exploring Cape Town itself (Table Mountain, Lions Head, V&A Waterfornt, Bo- Kaap or Robben Island) or taking a day trip further afield. Maybe a drive to Kalk Bay; perfect for a morning swim at Dalebrook tidal pool and brunch at Salt, or a drive down the peninsula to Cape Point; stopping for breakfast at the scone shack on the way and visiting the penguins at Boulders beach on the way back.
a) Staying the V&A Waterfront
Central location, walk to bars restaurants, boat trips around the harbour and ubers will be easy to get. Expensive.
Victoria and Alfred Hotel - Radisson Red - Docklands Apartment - Hotel Lola
b) Green Point and Sea Point
Close to V&A waterfront and the beaches, lots of airbnb's, beautiful walk in the day along the promenade
c) Camps Bay, Bantry Bay
Beach views and access, relatively close to the waterfront, easy to get ubers, nice airbnb's. Can be expensive.
d) Bo-Kaap
Cultural, close to restaurants and shops, nice hotels and apartments, accessible in ubers, wouldn't walk around here at night. Avoid Long Street at night.
e) Constantia
Beautiful wine region closest to Cape Town, airbnb's of all sizes, ubers easy to get here. Very nice restaurants.
Cape winelands
a) Franschhoek
High street with restaurants, coffee shops and bars. Franschhoek wine tram begins on the high street therefore staying close to the high street will avoid someone being the designated drivers No ubers / limited ubers here. A mix of airbnb's and small hotels/guesthouses here.
Plumwood - Le Petit Paris - Air bnb 4 beds - Air bnb 3 beds - Vive la vie - By Oyster
b) Stellenbosch
University town and sprawling wineries. Home to some of the largest and most beautiful vineyards. Easiest way to travel is by car. Beautiful airbnb's here and lots of vineyards have accommodation.
c) Paarl
Good wineries, reasonable airbnb's, some restaurants but not as many, easy to drive to Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Also close to our wedding venue.
Safari
a) Aquila Safari
This is the closest safari to Cape Town. Achievable as a day trip or you can stay over. Safari is also 1 hour from the wedding venue.
b) Gondwana Game Reserve
Perfect for a couple nights away, 4 hour drive from Cape Town.
c) Kruger National Park
One of Africa's largest game reserves, bucket list moment. Take a flight from Cape Town and potentially fly back (or into) Johannesburg which should be cheaper than Cape Town.
Hermanus
Whilst we aren't in whale season, Hermanus is a relaxing seaside town with a long coastal walk. Close to Meg's favourite wine region (Hemel en Aarde Valley) which rivals Melbourne's Chardonnay's. Hermanus is also close to Betty Bay (home to penguins if you fancy something a bit quieter than Boulders Beach).
